Florida International University (FIU) is a public research university in Miami, Florida. It is the fourth-largest university in Florida and the eighth-largest public university in the United States by enrollment. FIU is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity"

History:

FIU was founded in 1965 by the Florida Legislature to meet the higher education needs of the growing population of Miami-Dade County. The university opened its doors to students in 1972 with an initial enrollment of 5,000 students.
